The Minister for Small Business Development, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams paid a visit to Arion Power (factory) in Capricorn Muizenberg, on the doorsteps of Cape Town Central Business District to access and monitor the progress made by young entrepreneurs.

Arion power was founded by two University of Cape Town postgraduate students in entrepreneurship namely Brian Gadisi and Alan Gie in 2020.

Arion Power was nominated as the Top 3 Finalist at the National Presidential SMME and Co-operatives award for Youth-Led SMME of the Year last year.

Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams addressed problems faced by small businesses, co-ops and informal traders in the Midlands.

Ixopo has been in news following the devastating April 2023 floods and the social unrest which resulted in loss of economic opportunities for small and micro businesses.

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) are participating at the Mantsopa Local Municipality's Local Economic Development (LED) Summit at Ladybrand Town Hall, Free State province. 

As part of the build-up to the summit, The Flea market was hosted where SMMEs showcased their products.
The purpose of the summit is to set a platform of engagement and growth for different SMMEs (Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises) located in the whole of Mantsopa Local Municipality.

20 vibrant Start ups and SMMEs from across the continent are pitching  their business and ground breaking ideas to the esteemed panel of judges.

This year’s drive was embraced by Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams and the Department of Small Business Development as it aims to equip learners with an abundance of knowledge on business and providing them with the necessary schooling equipment to develop their skills and to empower them to succeed in their studies.

The school benefited immensely from Minister’s visit as she handed learners with academic armoury to tackle this year’s academic calendar.
