The Minister for Small Business Development will on Sunday, 24 November 2019 and on Monday, 25 November 2019, participate in a community funding initiative geared at SMMEs that are based in Mokopane and Lephalale areas under Waterberg District of Limpopo. The initiative is part of measures taken by the Department to integrate government service delivery through the District approach which integrates National, Provincial and Local Municipality service delivery into one plan, to be implemented at District Municipality level. This is a response to the clarion call made by President Cyril Ramaphosa to bring government services closer to communities.
Pitch for Funding is an effort to provide an opportunity to entrepreneurs who require support (financial or non-financial) to grow businesses and assist the country to address the high unemployment ratio. The Department of Small Business Development supported by its agencies (Seda and sefa) will be running the Pitch for Funding session throughout all 9 provinces in South Africa. The Pitch for Funding session provides a great platform for South African owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to become part of a community of like-minded entrepreneurs as they look to build on their businesses’ solid foundation and realise their true potential.
The Department along with the agencies Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) organized business and funding masterclasses for SMMEs, which included workshops on how to pitch. Today, Sunday, 24th November and tomorrow i.e. Monday, 25 November will see the announcement of winners of the first round of pitching.
The Minister believes SMMEs provide a critical base for economic growth, particularly, through their agility, innovativeness and creativity. The government of the day believes that the country needs to invest in SMMEs as this is the sector that will assist the country to address high unemployment levels and grow an inclusive economy.
